Emotional Freedom Technique: Online Sessions

I discovered EFT around six years ago and was amazed by how easily and effectively it helped me deal with stress, personal issues and limiting beliefs.

I’ve used EFT with clients on workshops and retreats and in one-to-one sessions and consider it a true energy-medicine.

What is EFT?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or ‘Tapping’ is a simple and powerful mind-body practice that utilizes the body’s energy meridian points, with roots in acupressure and modern psychology.

Energy circulates through our bodies along a specific network of meridians, or channels. Ancient Chinese practitioners discovered these meridians and more than 2000 acupuncture points that have a healing effect when stimulated.

EFT is a simpler, self-administered technique focusing on a gentle, systematic tapping of just a few of these points.

Why do we need EFT?

Emotional stress can manifest into physical symptoms, and in the same respect, physical symptoms in the body can cause emotional stress. These issues both cause, and occur as a result of disruption in the energy centres of our body.

The practice of EFT restores balance to this energy and starts to heal our emotional and physical blocks, realigning the body, mind and spirit to feel safe and let go.

Tapping has been found to relieve and reduce symptoms including:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Physical pain
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Deep fears
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Lack of focus
  • Negative patterns
  • Addiction
  • Cravings
  • Insomnia

How does EFT work?

The amygdala is the part of our brain that processes fearful emotions and identifies threats.  It can send our body into ‘fight or flight’ mode (our essential survival response) whenever a threat is perceived.

Historically, we may have been faced with a sabre-toothed tiger, for example, and our body would have prepared us to fight or flee, releasing hormones to enable us to do either, and then eventually leveling out once we knew we were safe.

Today, as the amygdala doesn’t know the difference between a real physical danger and a modern day stress trigger, it’s more likely to be activated when neither fighting nor fleeing is appropriate.  That email from our boss, argument with a loved one, being stuck in traffic or dealing with bad news sends us into the same state.

As we’re more and more consumed by stress, the hormones that our body releases when it perceives a threat don’t level out. The ‘tiger’ never seems to go away in a world where there are triggers around every corner and we’re holding onto every single perceived danger, resulting in chronic stress or illness.

By tapping on specific meridian points whilst focusing on accepting and resolving an issue or negative emotion we’re sending signals to the amygdala that we’re safe. As we begin to re-program our response to that issue our hormonal levels begin to stabilize, our energy systems balance and negative emotions dissipate.

  • It provides greater clarity and immediate shifts in perception.
  • It’s simple, accessible and can be practiced anywhere at any time
  • Persistent issues can be cleared with only a few sessions
  • Once you know the process, you can tap on pretty much anything that’s bothering you!

What are the benefits of working with a practitioner?

EFT is the perfect tool to use alone, but it does require a process.  I help guide you through the meridian points and their meanings, how, where and when to tap and how to create a tapping ‘script’.  I help you identify exactly what you’d like to tap on, and if other issues come up, am there to help adapt your focus accordingly.  In the same meditating alone, the ‘call and response’ element of working with a practitioner gives you the freedom to focus solely on the practice, but also empowers you develop your own practice when you are ready.

How do sessions work?

I offer a free 15 minute call or video call (via Skype, Zoom or Facetime) to discuss any questions you might have in advance of booking or to help you identify what it is you’d like to focus on during your sessions.

Sessions are an hour long and held via Skype or Zoom. The number of sessions depends upon what we’re focusing on and how much guidance you would like before developing your own practice. After your initial 1-hour session, additional 30 minute or 1 hour sessions can be booked individually at any time.  Packages are also available.  I would advise booking at least two 1-hr sessions to begin to work with long-term or deep-rooted emotion or issue.  Each additional session will allow for more significant changes to take place and improve your technique.
